Costa Brava<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Costa Brava\u00a0is the sum of amazing sensations from Blanes to Portbou. Nature plays a starring role in the form of three natural parks (Cap de Creus, Aiguamolls de l\u2019Empord\u00e0\u00a0and\u00a0Montgr\u00ed, the\u00a0Medes\u00a0Islands\u00a0and the\u00a0Baix Ter\u00a0area): three distinctive settings, three areas of great biological importance. The coastline will also take your breath away with the beauty of its superb\u00a0beaches\u00a0and heavenly\u00a0coves\u00a0nestled among cliffs, not to mention typical Mediterranean towns such asCadaqu\u00e9s\u00a0or\u00a0Calella de Palafrugell, and unique beauty spots such as the\u00a0bay\u00a0of Roses,\u00a0Banyoles lake, and the\u00a0botanical gardens\u00a0of Santa Clotilde, Pinya de Rosa, Marimurtra and Cap Roig.<\/p>\n

Dal\u00ed Theatre-Museum<\/h3>\n

Inaugurated in 1974, the Dal\u00ed Theatre-Museum was built upon the remains of the former Figueres theatre. It contains the broadest range of works spanning the artistic career of Salvador Dal\u00ed (1904-1989), from his earliest artistic experiences and his surrealist creations to the works produced in the last few years of his life<\/p>\n

Some of the most noteworthy works on display there are: Port Alguer (1924), The Girl from Figueres (1926), The Spectre of Sex Appeal (1932), Soft Self-Portrait with Fried Bacon (1941), Poetry of America \u2013 The Cosmic Athletes (1943), Galarina (1944-45), Basket of Bread (1945), Napoleon\u2019s Nose Transformed into a Pregnant Woman Strolling Her Shadow with Melancholic amongst Original Ruins (1945), Atomic Leda (1949), Apotheosis of the Dollar (1965), Galatea of the Spheres (1952) and Dawn, Noon, Afternoon and Evening (1979).<\/p>\n

Other highlights include the set of works that the artist created expressly for the Theatre-Museum, such as the Mae West Room, the Wind Palace Room, the Monument to Francesc Pujols and the Rainy Cadillac. The Theatre-Museum also features works by other artists that Dal\u00ed wished to include there: El Greco, Mari\u00e0 Fortuny, Modest Urgell, Ernest Meissonier, Marcel Duchamp, Wolf Vostell, Antoni Pitxot and Evarist Vall\u00e8s, among others.<\/p>\n

The Dal\u00ed Theatre-Museum must be seen as a whole, as the great work of Salvador Dal\u00ed, since all of its elements were conceived and designed by the artist with the goal of offering visitors a real experience and immersing them in his captivating and unique world<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sant Ferran Castle<\/h3>\n

The construction of the castle began in 1753 under the orders of the highly distinguished military engineer Juan Mart\u00edn Cerme\u00f1o but it was not operational until 1792. It is one of the largest fortresses of its kind to be built in Europe. It has a symmetrical irregular pentagon layout with a double defence circuit composed of outer works of different types and sizes. The exterior perimeter measures 3,125 metres. In the moat the aforementioned outer works are found: two counterguards and seven ravelins, to which five counter mines and seven large-capacity water tanks are added.<\/p>\n

The interior enclosure is made up of five large bastions and one smaller bastion (or platform), with a total perimeter of 2,100 metres. Seven large buildings for the accommodation of the garrison are arranged around the 12,000 m2 central parade ground. The garrison was composed of 4,000 men although the fortress could accommodate double that number if necessary. The 300-metre-long stables could accommodate up to 500 horses. The most spectacular feature of the monument for visitors is located underneath the parade ground: the extraordinary navigable water tanks, which could hold up to 9 million litres of water. Sant Ferran Castle was first opened to the general public in 1996 and has remained open on a regular basis since 1997.
